Goal and you.

How many of you like sports? You guys will wonder now, what's wrong with this guy? Why is he asking for sports?

Well, you must know one thing my dear friends that nothing in this world is meaningless. There is always a co-relation.

How many of heard about Black Pearl? I am sure a

few of you must know. Black Pearl was the name given to the legendary player Pele who made his team world-famous by taking back the "Ginga style" a special move to dribble and score.

During Pele's first world cup on June 29, 1958, his team Brazil was completely demoralized by the opponent team Sweden. But Pele was focused and he brought back his team into the game and they won the world cup. He was so much focused that while he took the last goal he fall to the ground and was unconscious. He became the star of his country.

But, why I am discussing all this here? Like I said there is always a co-relation. There is a correlation between the Goal & you. I picked up Pele's example because I love soccer.

Let's talk about the story of Goal Post and you. I am always excited to share examples from our day-to-day life and specifically I love to share examples from my past because I always learned something from them.

Everyone in their life sets up a goal. Someone wants to be rich early. Someone would like to take a higher position in the organization. Someone would love to buy a new home, car, etc. But how and by when? No idea. Even if we have an idea are we doing enough to achieve it? Yes/No/Maybe.

When I came to the metro city, I always had a dream to buy a car because as a youth, it used to be considered as a status. I opted for it because all of my friends used to come in their cars to work and I used to take an office cab to commute. In a way, it was fine but later I realized that having your car is comfort. You need not call someone to take a favor. I decided that I will purchase a car. I contacted banks and inquired about the loan facility. However, my salary was not that much that I could have made the down payment for it. I was very upset. I was about to cancel the idea of buying a car. One day my close friend asked me that why I am upset? I told him the entire incident. I'm sharing the conversation here with you guys.

My friend: Why do you need a car?

Me: It's a necessity.

My friend: Are you sure? It's a necessity?

Me: Yes.

My friend: What would you do after buying a car?

Me: I would drive to the office and will come back and will come to your home anytime.

My friend: Well, that is something you are doing as of now without any issue. What would you exactly do after buying a car?

Me: Don't irritate me. I told you the reason.

My friend: I am not irritating you. I am trying to make you understand something that if you are not sure about what exactly would you get after buying a car, it's of no use.

I was completely shocked. He told me to think about it again and dropped me at my home with this question. I slept while thinking about the same. The next day, I met another friend who recently bought a new car but he was looking upset. I asked him the reason. He didn't reply. After insisting he told me that I just wasted my money here. I already had a car at home. My father hardly uses it. He told me to take the car to the office. I just blocked my money rather I'm now paying the EMI's unnecessarily. I could have spent the money somewhere else.

I called my friend who dropped me off the previous day and told him about this incident. He asked me to meet him at his home. I went to his home and we had dinner. After that, he asked me the same questions he asked earlier. I had no answer to it. He told me that my dear Moloy, you are staying here for rent. Your salary is not that high. You have other responsibilities to take care of. Now tell me, is it necessary to buy a car right now? I replied No.

He smiled and said, "There you go." It's not a necessity right now. You need to set your priorities first. Set your goal smartly and stay focused on it. Don't be a face in the crowd. I realized that I was wrong.

I told him my priority is to achieve the next level in our organization. It will give me a financial hike also. Then I can buy a new car. He replied, "Exactly." First, you need to set your goal but it has to be a smart goal that will help in achieving few other small goals too.

I made up my mind and set up a goal for my next level. Days passed, months passed. After 1 year, he switched to another company. But I was still there. He met me and I told him that I couldn't achieve my goal. I have lost the game. He asked me what went wrong?

I told him that I was also engaged in other goals that I wanted to achieve? I have got a couple of them but because of which I didn't get the promotion. He asked me to calm down. He told me one very valuable tip, which I remember till now.

He told me, "Never board two boats." (This is a very famous phrase in Hindi. This means that I have only two legs to stand. If I will stand on two boats at the same time, I will lose balance and will drown for sure.)

I understood his point and reset my goal again. I just focused on one goal and kept working towards it day and night. I learned all the required skills and performed them effectively. There was nothing else in my life during this time. By next year, I got the promotion and I was really happy about my first achievement.

The famous personalities of the world like: "Swami Vivekananda", "Warren Buffett", "Ratan Tata", "Dhiru Bhai Ambani", "Bill Gates", "Mark Zuckerberg" didn't become famous overnight. They struggled. They fought. They remained focused on their goal and then only they were able to achieve their dream. It happened because they involved so much in the goal they didn't see anyone between them and the goal post.

The moral of this true story is:

"Stay focused on your goal and you'll see no one between you and the goal post."

All the best!

Regards,

Moloy
